About the Artist
Brittany Smith is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the space between structure and surrender.
A former engineer, Brittany spent years immersed in precision, systems, and problem-solving. That background continues to influence her work through a sensitivity to balance, composition, and intentional design. Today, she approaches painting as a practice in the opposite—embracing uncertainty, trusting the process, and allowing each piece to unfold through layered color, texture, and movement.
Inspired by shifting light, natural landscapes, and the rhythms of everyday life, Brittany creates atmospheric paintings that blur the line between abstraction and landscape. Working intuitively with water, acrylic ink, and fluid paint, she builds translucent layers that evoke a sense of calm, movement, and emotional resonance.
Her transition from engineering to art deepened during her years as a stay-at-home mother, where the beauty of imperfection, unpredictability, and presence became central to both life and creative practice. Paint is allowed to flow, edges soften, and unexpected outcomes become part of the final work.
Each painting reflects an ongoing conversation between order and openness, discipline and intuition. Through her work, Brittany invites viewers to slow down, notice what unfolds, and find beauty in the space between control and letting go.
